The Minolta MD 50 mm f/ 1.7 Lens. Specs. MTF Charts. User Reviews.

I got a Minolta MD 50mm 1.7 for about 50 bucks, and at first it was pretty much what I expected, not so sharp at 1.7, felt pretty much like the other cheap end legacy lenses I've tried; fun and sometimes cool characteristics, but often trumped by modern high-ish end lenses, at least in some areas.

Now I have two 50mm f/1.7 MD lenses and an older 55mm f/1.7 MC. My understanding is that the 50mm f/1.7 MC and MD Rokkor-X lenses were the same optically but that the MD Rokkor-X had better coating. The last lens, the plain MD, may also be the same optically but it is in a less heavy mount. I find that the 50mm f/1.7 MD is extremely sharp.

Over at Rokkor Files Antony has made a great and very thorough comparison between the two Minolta f/1.2's and he came to the conclusion that the 50mm, although having pleasing bokeh, did not have the über-creamy bokeh of the 58mm. It was, however, sharper wide open. As with all my other legacy glass I found a real good bargain on my copy of.

Minolta 50mm F/1.4 vs F/1.7 . Hi all, I'm currently using a 50mm f/2.2 lens that came with my Minolta x-370 and have considered getting another lens that could perhaps be better for lower light or indoor photos.
